2nd workshop on macro-economic modeling of energy scenarios

Following a first workshop in september 2018, a second workshop on economic modeling was organized by the DIAPOL-CE project, within the framework of the Algerian-German Energy Partnership, at GIZ offices in Algiers.

The collaboration on modelling is part of the policy dialogue on low emission / renewable energy strategies in the MENA region (DIAPOL CE). The main objective of the model to be developed is to create a tool for specialized experts in order to be able to estimate in a clear way the economic impacts of different energy scenarios. The Algerian partners will use the model for the projection and analysis of economic effects for the long-term development of the Algerian energy system under different scenarios.

During the first part of the workshop, the German researchinstitute GWS (Gesellschaft für Wirtschaftliche Strukturforschung) and the Algerian national partners discussed the organization of the project. GWS presented the project planning and the concept of model development. During the second part of the workshop, scenarios and priorities for modeling were discussed and defined jointly.

The workshop in Algiers will be followed by a series of webinars for experts from both side and a meeting between Algerian and German expertsn planned for early April 2019 in Germany.
